Drink Wine, Eat Cucumbers, Make a Difference
Are you wondering what’s up with the title of this post and how one subject relates to the other? If you haven’t noticed, our planet is in some serious trouble. Every time I check my social media or read the news there’s just more doom and gloom to mentally digest. What can we do? I believe we all can make huge a difference while making simple, responsible choices in our everyday lives. Let me break it down.
This post was inspired while indulging in a fabulous glass of Banfi Chianti last night. I chose this Italian, eco-friendly wine because I prefer my food and drink to be unadulterated by chemical corporations. Did you know that Italy was the 9th country in the EU to ban gmos?
‘The Italian government is fearful that genetically-modified foods are less natural than traditional crops and could therefore be dangerous and have lasting negative effects…“These crops are forbidden because we still do not understand what the consequences are. So far, there has been no proper and in-depth research. For this reason, we do not know in five years, ten years, twenty years, what can happen,” Mauro Uniformi, Vice President of the Association of Agronomist and Forest Doctors, told RT.”‘ – RT
I prefer to buy local organic, non-GMO food as often as I can (You Need to Know: What Do Natural, Local and Organic Mean?). No, I don’t spend the proverbial ‘whole paycheck’ on organic food and during the summers, my garden is my own personal farmers’ market. Although, I think my husband can only take so much of my garden’s over-abundance of cucumbers…cucumber salad, cucumber salsa, cucumber soup, cucumber dip, cucumber water etc. I, on the other hand, love cucumbers! There are so many benefits to cucumbers. Check out Natural News’ 10 health benefits of cucumbers.
Make a Difference
One proactive way to make a difference is to get informed and stay informed. I like to regularly write letters to my Senators and Representatives just to let them know that I’m paying attention. What’s my point? Even if it is just a cucumber or a glass of wine, each individual choice we make can be a part of a huge collective difference. Our dollar and voices are incredibly influential when WE support businesses and products which don’t take advantage of people, animals, and our environment. Or sign a petition…it’s free.
Go out there and change the world with your glass of wine, cucumber salad, and informed voice!
