Hazelnut Cocoa Spread and The Rainforest
Who doesn’t like creamy hazelnut chocolate spread on, well, everything ? I’m a huge fan, I grew up with the stuff. However, after learning about the devastating effects of palm oil (deforestation, human rights violations, massive carbon pollution, and the extinction of many MANY wildlife species), I avoided any brand of this spread that contained palm oil. And then I found this….
This stuff is the bomb! Rigoni di Asiago is family owned, Certified Organic since 1992, and proves that palm oil isn’t necessary in a traditional hazelnut spread. It tastes exactly like how I remembered it when I was younger.
“Nocciolata Organic Hazelnut Spread with Cocoa & Milk is organic, non-GMO, Kosher certified, and gluten free. All organically grown. Wonderful on toast and as a replacement for peanut butter. Certified USDA Organic.” – Rigoni di Asiago
There are others on the market that do not contain palm oil and no, I have not tasted all of them. Of those that I have purchased, this one passes a 7-year-old’s taste test and her stepmom’s (that’s me!) requirement of a short list of understandable ingredients. You can find this eco-conscious spread at Whole Foods or click on this link (check out the list of fabulous recipes).
Note: This family-owned company also makes an award-winning alternative that is “Perfect if you are lactose intolerant or milk allergic, if you follow a vegan diet, or if you simply prefer a more intense taste!”
The featured picture is one of the many quick breakfasts I make for Hazel before she heads off to school.

Look at the labels and challenge companies! Consumer power is incredibly influential and WHY NOT educate yourself and make informed decisions.
